But the Jellystone Park in Mill Run not only has one you can play in, but you can eat and sleep in it, too.
The 258-site park, owned and operated by Randall Work and family, is installing a fully furnished, two-story treehouse that will be available beginning Memorial Day weekend.
“It’s going to be a unique, fun-looking cabin to stay in,” said Operations Manager Tracy Czambel, adding that it is being set up on a high point of the park, overlooking the whole upper section of the campground.
The tree house unit, designed by Phoenix, Ariz.-based Cavco Industries and Daniels Wood Land, is the first in the nation to be installed in the Jellystone Park chain.
Looking like something out of a children’s storybook, the tree house comes with its own tree shaped base, log cabin style siding, and a stone fireplace. It will also have an outside deck, complete with a barbecue grill.
Czambel said the tree house will initially sleep four, but additional beds will eventually be added to the lower tree house room to accommodate larger families.
The Jellystone Park also has many other rental accommodations, including 48 cabins and one park model RV. The park also has a double loft cabin unit, which sleeps 12 to 16 people. Two families can rent the double loft unit together. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two loft areas, but they share the kitchen as a common area.
Czambel said several other improvements are being made in preparation for the 2016 camping season, including the installation of a second GaGa ball pit.
GaGa ball is a type of dodge ball game that is played inside an octagon or hexagon shaped pit.
The park is also planning to cement the floor of its new 40 by 80 pavilion, which it installed last year. The new pavilion, which can accommodate up to 200 people, will be used for dances and other activities and special events.
Jellystone Parks are unique because they offer organized family activities and themed weekends with Yogi Bear, Boo Boo, Cindy Bear and Ranger Smith, which help families create unique memories.
Activities at the Jellystone Park at Mill Run include arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, face painting and paintball games as well as evening campfires and tuck-ins with the bears.
The themed weekends, which are scheduled from early April through October, range from family athletic competitions with various sporting events to Christmas in July with campsite decorating, Christmas cookie making activities, visits by Santa Claus and Rudolph; to “Halloween in August” with a costume contest, campsite decorating and trick or treating.
The Jellystone Park at Mill Run was also the first campground in Pennsylvania to have a fire truck ride, the first to have a train ride and the first to have waterslides. It was also the first campground in the U.S. to install a snow tubing ride. Similar in appearance to a long Slip-N-Slide, the snow tubing track is made of synthetic material. The ride is set up on a hill and participants can slide down in inner tubes, much like they would on a snow-covered hill. Other unique attractions include Hey Rides and Pic-A-Nic basket rides.
