The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company is investing millions to transform a former 550-acre Girl Scout camp in Golden Valley into its first Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park™ in North Carolina.
“We’re very excited to reopen this beautiful campground at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains as a Jellystone Park Camp-Resort,” said Zachary Bossenbroek, CEO of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Northgate Resorts.
“The park will initially be open for cabin and tent rentals, though we will have other camping options available, including glamping tents, later this year. We’ll be adding RV sites for our 2019 camping season.
Families will be able to enjoy numerous activities as soon as the park opens, including a jumping pillow and jumping pad; canoeing and kayaking; swimming in the lake; outdoor movies, playground; scavenger hunts, volleyball, basketball, hiking trails, horseshoes, arts & crafts, Gaga ball, gem-mining, “Hey Hey” Wagon Rides, Candy Bar Bingo, and dance parties.
Of course, Jellystone Parks are famous for their organized family activities and themed events with Yogi Bear™, Boo Boo™ and Cindy Bear™, which help families create unique memories. Themed weeks and weekends will commence at the Jellystone Park in Golden Valley during the first week of August with scout themed activities, including a nature hike and an educational talk on native plants of North Carolina.
A “Double Dare Week” is scheduled for Aug. 20-26. Activities will include a pie-eating contest, root beer chugging and green slime relays.
There will also be six consecutive Halloween themed weekends starting Sept. 21 with campsite and cabin decorating contests, costume parades with the bears, pumpkin painting contests and trick or treating.
