But when the park reopens April 29 for the 2016 camping season, the campground will become New York’s seventh Jellystone Park Camp-Resort.
“We want to really target the family business and increase our overnight business,” said Karen Whitmyer, who acquired the park with her husband, Dustin, three years ago.
She added that it is easier to increase the park’s business as a Jellystone Park than using a park name known only to locals or to people who have camped there before.
The Whitmyer’s park already has many amenities, including a swimming pool, game room, rec hall, a playground, horseshoe pits and a catch and release fishing pond with kayak and paddleboat rentals.
But the Whitmyers are adding even more amenities for the 2016 camping season, including an inflatable water slide; a bounce house with a wrecking ball; and a miniature golf course. They are also adding 43 mostly pull through campsites, which will boost the total number of campsites to 150. The park also has three rental cabins.
Of course, these amenities will be complemented by the unique features of a Jellystone Park. Only Jellystone Parks have Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, and Jellystone Parks are famous for providing fun, family activities and themed weekends, such as Hawaiian weekends, which often include limbo contests, sand castle building, and luaus. Mardi Gras themed weekends include parades, cookouts and dances, while Christmas in July weekends include campsite decorating contests, campsite caroling, cookie and ornament making activities. The increasingly popular Halloween themed weekends include costume and campsite decorating contests and trick or treating activities.
