“This is going to be an amazing resort,” said Zachary Bossenbroek, CEO Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Northgate Resorts, which acquired the Kerrville resort in late 2015 and converted it into a Jellystone Park last year.
A private company that owns and operates seven other Jellystone Parks across the country, Northgate is highly regarded for the quality of its RV resorts.
Located along the banks of the Guadalupe River, the 255-site Jellystone Park in Kerrville features more than 210 RV sites as well as 46 furnished cabins and cottages. Ten of the rental units have been extensively remodeled while nine are brand new accommodations.
The 32-seat Cartoon Cafe, which is expected to open by Memorial Day Weekend, will feature kid-friendly meals such as chicken tenders and hamburgers.
The new 19,641 square foot water zone, which is expected to open in May before Memorial Day weekend, features three water slides that are 20- feet, 160-feet and 165-feet long; two kiddie water slides; two water cannons; 13 water blasters; and a 750-gallon hydro storm, an elevated water tank that periodically dumps its contents on anyone who happens to be underneath it. A water zone launch party has been set for May 20.
Future plans also call for a new brick pizza oven, which is expected to be completed by Memorial Day Weekend and will be near the River Rock Saloon, which will serve beer and wine. The on-site store will also be remodeled.
All of these improvements complement a growing array of onsite activities, including a gem mining sluice, miniature golf course, a gaga ball pit and laser tag.
Jellystone Parks also offer organized family activities and themed weekends with Yogi Bear™ and Boo Boo™, which help families create unique memories. Activities include arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, face painting, a jumping pillow, and gem mining, as well as plentiful interactions with the bears.
Themed weekends are usually scheduled from March through early November, depending on the park’s location, and range from family athletic competitions with various sporting events to Christmas in July with Christmas Carole Karaoke and other holiday themed activities to pre-Halloween themed weekends with costume and campsite decorating contests and trick or treating.
Upcoming events at the Jellystone Park in Kerrville include an Easter egg hunt on Easter weekend; a Death by Chocolate Week from June 5 – 11 with a chocolate Slip N Slide; chocolate painting; an ice cream social; and all you can eat chocolate chip pancakes. A Pirates Weekend is set for Aug. 25 – 27 with cannonball tosses and contests; peg leg races; a treasure hunt; and a prize for the best pirate costume. A Renaissance Weekend is planned for Sept. 8 – 10 with magical relay games; jewelry making; and a fairy tale story time.
