The 270-site campground received special recognition for having the most improved inspection in the 80-unit Jellystone Park franchise network
But park owners Jim and Jill Kavicky continue to make improvements to the 49-year-old campground, and won a national award for their efforts from Leisure Systems, Inc., the Milford, Ohio-based company that franchises 80 Jellystone Parks with more than 17,000 campsites and vacation rentals across the U.S. and Canada.
The Kavickys, in fact, won special recognition from LSI for having the most improved inspection in the Jellystone Park network.
The Kavickys have made many improvements to the 270-site campground, the latest of which include repainting the park’s buildings, roofs and picnic tables and remodeling their restroom facilities.
Jellystone Park founders Doug Haag and Robert Borkovetz opened the campground on July 4th, 1969 and continued to operate it until they sold it to the Kavickys in January of 2002.
“This will be our 16th year running the park,” Jim Kavicky said, adding that the next focus area for improvements will be the park’s swimming pools.
The Door County Jellystone has three swimming pools, a miniature golf course, horseshoe pits, four playgrounds, tetherball, a game arcade, a dance pavilion and volleyball, basketball, funnelball and shuffleboard courts. The park has four cabins and three towable RV rentals.
Of course, the main attractions are organized family activities and themed weekends with Yogi Bear™, Cindy Bear™ and Boo Boo™.
This year’s themed weekends include a late Easter Eggstravaganza weekend June 8-10 with an egg hunt and other holiday themed activities. Father’s Day weekend, June 15-17, will feature a big splash contest, a chocolate pudding eating contest and a DJ dance on Saturday night. An early Halloween themed weekend with campsite decorating, costume contests and trick or treating is set for Aug. 24-26.
