Black Canyon Jellystone Park™ To Market Itself As An Affordable Base Camp For Telluride-Bound Skiers
In recent years, growing numbers of visitors to western Colorado have been using Black Canyon Jellystone Park as a base camp for ATV rides, guided jeep and rafting tours, hunting and fishing trips and visits to national parks. But starting this winter, the 142-space campground with eight lodges and five rental cabins will begin marketing itself as a base camp for a different kind of visitor: Skiers bound for Telluride. “Skiers can stay at our park for a fraction of what it can cost to stay in Telluride,” said Tom Vail, who co-manages the Black Canyon Jellystone Park with his wife, Kay.

The Jellystone Park in Bremen has received a national award for achieving the highest assessment scores in the 80-unit Jellystone Park franchise network. “We were happily honored and surprised,” said Phil Asztalos, who owns and operates the 104-site campground with his wife, Analyn. The Bremen campground was one of five Jellystone Parks that won The Carroll Award from Leisure Systems, Inc., the Milford, Ohio-based company that franchises 80 Jellystone Parks across the U.S. and Canada.

Jellystone Of Estes Park Wins Regional And National Awards
Rick Spear and his wife, Shelly, were barely into their 30s when they purchased the Jellystone Park in Estes Park from Rick’s parents. But in the seven years that the Spears have owned and operated the park, they’ve increased their business by 50 percent, demonstrated exemplary park management techniques and served on education and advisory committees to help other Jellystone Parks across the country. In recognition of their efforts, the Spears won the Camp-Resort of the Year Award for the Western Region as well as the Jim Webb Spirit Award from Leisure Systems, Inc. (LSI), the Milford, Ohio-based company that franchises 80 Jellystone Parks across the U.S. and Canada.

Bill and Kay Pott, who own and operate the award winning Jellystone Park at Mammoth Cave, have earned another national award. This time the Potts received the Dan O’Connell Service Award from Leisure Systems, Inc. (LSI), the Milford, Ohio-based company that franchises 80 Jellystone Parks across the U.S. and Canada. The award recognizes Jellystone Park owners who have made exemplary efforts to expand the campground industry. The Potts easily meet that criteria, having embarked on a $10.7 million expansion of their Cave City resort that they hope to complete before next summer.

Northgate Resorts Wins Multi-Unit Entrepreneur Of The Year Award From Leisure Systems, Inc.
Northgate Resorts has won the Multi-Unit Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the company that franchises Jellystone Parks. Grand Rapids-based Northgate, which owns nine Jellystone Parks in seven states, won the award for having achieved the strongest year-over-year growth in business of any operator that owns multiple Jellystone Parks. “We continue to see double digit growth across our whole portfolio,” said Zachary Bossenbroek, CEO of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Northgate Resorts. “This year, our average revenue increase per park was 26 percent, and we saw an even greater increase in our net operating income.”

A Water Play Park And Lazy River Are Coming To The Jellystone Park™ At Tower Park By Next Summer
An impressive line up of improvements and amenities are coming to Jellystone Park at Tower Park by next summer, including a 40,000 square foot water play park and lazy river, a dozen “Red Carpet” pull through RV sites and 18 new rental cabins. “We are investing millions of dollars to bring this park up to date and make it a first class camping destination for families from the Bay Area to the San Joaquin Valley and beyond,” said Zachary Bossenbroek, CEO of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Northgate Resorts, which purchased the former Tower Park Campground last year and converted it into the only Jellystone Park Camp-Resort on the West Coast. Northgate also owns eight other Jellystone Parks around the country. The new water play park will include two 165-foot long water slides, two kiddie water slides, 13 water blasters, two water cannons, a 750 gallon hydro storm bucket that periodically dumps 750 gallons of water on anyone standing beneath it and a 127,000 gallon lazy river.

Jellystone Park™ At Daddy Joe’s Earns The Highest Awards In The Jellystone Park Network
For the second time in nine years, the Jellystone Park at Daddy Joe’s has earned the Overall System Camp-Resort of the Year Award, the highest honor in the 80-unit Jellystone Park franchise network. “We’re just as ecstatic now as we were in 2008 when we won this award the first time,” said park co-owner Rick Coleman. “It was a complete shock.” Milford, Ohio-based Leisure Systems, Inc. (LSI) franchises 80 Jellystone Park campgrounds with more than 17,000 campsites and vacation rentals across the U.S. and Canada and plans to expand to more than 100 parks in the next few years. “Competition for this award is more difficult now because there are so many qualified parks and so many people buying into the camp-resort concept,” Coleman said.

For the fourth time in seven years, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest has won the Park of the Year Award from the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC). The award, which Denny Quigley and his son, Gary, received during a national awards ceremony at the Marriott City Center in downtown Raleigh, N.C., recognized the Quigleys’ exceptionally high levels of customer service, training, operational excellence, national directory ratings and community service. The Quigleys also received the award in 2015, 2014 and 2011. Gary Quigley said the awards reflect his family’s consistent efforts to improve the camping experiences they provide for their guests. “We attempt to do better at every single part of our business every year,” he said.

Country Stage Campground Will Become Ohio’s Fourth Jellystone Park™ In 2018
Country Stage Campground, which has been family owned and operated by Pamela and Todd McCreary for the past decade, will become Ohio’s fourth Jellystone Park when it reopens May 1 for the 2018 camping season. “We will be known as the Cleveland Sandusky Jellystone Park,” said Pamela McCreary, adding that the 150-site park will have new signage and other improvements, including an outdoor movie area and rental accommodations, when it reopens in the spring. McCreary said her business has been doing well with her existing offering of family activities and amenities, which include a gaga ball pit, a mining sluice, a cafe and a three-acre catch and release fishing lake. And she expects that she would continue to do well even if she and her husband continued to operate as Country Stage Campground. But she said becoming a Jellystone Park will bring a new level of excitement to their park with new activities and entertainment and, of course, Yogi Bear™ and Boo Boo™.
