Labor Day weekend is sold out. But sites are still available during mid-week periods throughout the summer and fall
BLOOMINGTON, Ind., July 29, 2016 — Business is up at the Lake Monroe Jellystone Park in Bloomington.
“Business has been booming,” said General Manager Rachael Stine.
The park’s cabin rentals were sold out every weekend for June and July, with availability open on weekdays.
“July 4th was completely sold out and so is Labor Day weekend,” Stine said, although the park still has vacancy during the mid-week periods throughout the summer and fall.
“Weather permitting, the park plans to keep its splashpark and pools open through mid-September, so there is still plenty of time to enjoy the summer before the park gears up for fall with harvest parties and Halloween weekends.”
Stine recommends families call the park several weeks in advance to ensure they can reserve a campground or cabin during the weekends of their choice during the remaining weeks of summer and fall.
Daily activities include wagon rides; arts and crafts; visits with Yogi Bear, Boo Boo, and Cindy Bear, plus games and entertainment. Guests also have free access to park amenities such as a jumping pillow, playground, splash park, pools and recreation center. (Other amenities such as gem mining and 2 or 4 seater peddle karts can be used for a small fee).
Stine said the park has added new pedal kart and golf cart rentals. The park is also planning to add a bigger basketball court and a GaGa pit later this year. GaGa ball is a type of dodge ball game that is played inside an octagon or hexagon shaped pit.
Jellystone Parks are famous for providing fun, family activities and themed weekends that include everything from crafts and games to wagon rides. Birthday parties with the bears and daily appearances by Yogi Bear are also very popular.
Themed weekend activities, such as Hawaiian weekends, often include limbo contests, sand castle building, and a luau. Mardi Gras themed weekends include parades, cookouts and dances, while Christmas in July weekends include campsite decorating contests, campsite caroling, cookie and ornament making activities. The increasingly popular Halloween themed weekends include costume and campsite decorating contests and trick or treating activities.
Jellystone Park at Lake Monroe is located off Highway 37 at the Monroe Reservoir/Harrodsburg Exit. It’s open daily until October 26.
