The Tyler campground is having its busiest summer since the Tyler family acquired the park four years ago
The laser tag course, which is just under an acre in size, can accommodate up to 20 players. It is available only to Jellystone Park guests.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in this, so we’re eager to have the game up and running for our guests to enjoy,” said Tardy, who bought the campground four years ago with his wife, Jan, and her two adult children,Colt Perrin and Bree Perrin.
Tardy added that this summer has been their busiest yet, largely because they have invested more than $1 million in new games and other improvements to the campground during the past three years, including an 18-hole miniature golf course.
The Tyler campground is also one of the first Jellystone Parks in the country to offer its guests a free texting service, which enables them to be notified of Yogi Bear sightings, arts and crafts activities and special events while they are staying at the campground.
“The texting program supplements the activity schedules that we have in print and online, so it helps our guests get the most out of their stay with us,” Tardy said.
Jellystone Parks offer organized family activities and themed weekends with Yogi Bear, which help families create unique memories. Activities include arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, face painting, a jumping pillow, gem mining as well as evening campfires and tuck-ins with the bears.
The themed weekends, which are scheduled from March through October, range from family athletic competitions with various sporting events to Christmas in July with campsite decorating, Christmas cookie making activities, and visits by Santa Claus; to pre-Halloween themed weekends with costume and campsite decorating contests and trick or treating.
“We give our guests a flyer with their arrival kit that shows how they can log on to the texting program,” Tardy said, adding, “The people that are using it like it, so I think that’s a good thing.”
Other recent improvements at the campground include new poolside restrooms, the installation of four loft rental cabins, as well as new horseshoe and washer pits. Washers is a game where you toss a washer into a container, aiming for the hole in center so that the washer drops through the hole.
